DIY: White Rhinestone Candle Pillar

When looking through a Thrift Store, I came across an old looking candle pillar that just needed a little T.L.C. I love candles in my house and finding a pillar just gives me another excuse to add more candles (wink).

The Project:

This is the candle pillar I was telling you about which was only 99 cents.

I went to my local hardware store (Lowe's) and I bought a can of white shiny paint
for only 99 cents. You can always use a different brand & again, don't forget to wear gloves!

I went into the garage for this project and used our fold-up table :)
Just spray little by little "Spray-Wait-Dry-Spray-Wait-Dry"
Don't be too impatient like me, you will end up having paint drips.

It finally dried!

What you will need for the next steps. (small glue gun, glue sticks, scissors, black marker/pen, white felt & stick on rhinestones) You can find all of this at your local craft store (Michael's) and its very inexpensive.

Place the bottom of your pillar on your felt, using your black marker/pen to trace the bottom of the pillar. Were going to add a soft padding at the bottom of your pillar to protect your furniture from scratches.

What mine looks like.

Carefully, glue the edges of the bottom of your pillar in small parts at a time. You don't want to go too close to the edge, because when you place your felt and press down to the cloth, your glue will just Ooze out. You want to do small parts at a time, because your glue will dry quickly and you want to make sure your felt will stick and smooth out evenly.

Just about done with this step.

Now were going to use our stick-on rhinestones to place at the end of each loop of the pillar. The packet I purchased for 99 cents had two different sizes of rhinestones. I just placed the small ones at every other loop of the pillar.

The larger rhinestones, I placed in the loops I skipped over from prior.
I'm just using the Small-Big-Small-Big pattern for this.

Voo-La!
Using a candle I already had, I added a thin white papered rope (also something I already had) to tie a bow around it. This candle pillar desperately needed an up-lift, glad I was the one to do it!

DIY: Spray Painted Shadow Boxes

I have been on the look out for something to put on this awkward wall that is in between these two doors I have in the master bedroom. I was pondering whether I should leave it alone or add simplicity to it, well this is what I came up with...

The Project:

I found these beauties at a store near where I live (DD's Discounts) and well, the name just goes with the discounts you find! I bought these for $6.99 and since I didn't like the color, I just figured I could just spray paint them :)

I went to my local hardware store (Lowe's) and I bought a can of black shiny paint
for only 99 cents. You can always use a different brand & don't forget to wear gloves!

I went in the garage for this, placed some old ads on the table for protection.

I sprayed each box slightly away from the boxes so your paint won't drip. Little by little just Spray-Wait-Dry-Spray-Wait-Dry... was the motto I was following. I tend to be very impatient, so I sprayed too much :/

Voo-La!
Not bad for the fire engine red shadow boxes you once were!

DIY: Milk Vases

I got this inspiration from another blog that I saw and I wanted to try it myself. I am obsessed with white plates and vases right now. The simplicity of just putting flowers inside them or hanging them up is just so feminine. My master bedroom is my experimental project right now. I am going with black & white toil with a little bit of chic. We will see how this turns out :)

The Project

I grabbed all of my clear vases I have around the house that I didn't know what to do with.

2 white paint bottles I bought from my local craft store (Michael's) for 99 cents each.
You can find these anywhere at your local craft store.

You will need 1/4 cup of water

Empty both bottles of white paint inside the 1/4 cup of water

Use a spoon to mix the paint & water together. I wasn't as graceful here, I just used an old pencil as my stirring stick :) The water just thins out the paint to make it easier for what your going to do with your next step.

Pour a small amount of paint inside the vase you are trying to cover and move it around so the paint can spread evenly inside of the vase until completely white. When finished, set the vases upside down for the rest of the paint to drip down on an old news paper/ads over night until dry.

My finished vases after drying over night.

Let's see what it looks like inside...

Voo-La!
I put flowers inside of them and placed them in the master bedroom, what a difference!
